Style Arc's Demi Drape Top

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this pattern, but not the high shipping cost from Austrailia!  It was approximately $20.00!  Style Arc patterns have a very nice selection of unique styles borrowed from the fashion industry.  To offset the high cost of shipping, I just ordered at least 3-4 patterns at once.  I really do like the styles they carry and will probably treat myself again!  I currently have approximately 8 of their patterns. This pattern is called the Demi Drape Top.

Demi Drape Top sewing pattern

The instructions for these patterns are quite different from the Big 4 in that they don't have step by step illustrated pictures.  However, the instructions are written so well, you don't really miss the pictures.  They do show some illustrations for clarification where needed.

I love the fit directly out of the envelope!  I had no sewing issues at all and I love the way Style Arc has you to "sandwich" the built in tank by staggering the seams to reduce the bulk...very nice touch!  The only alteration I made was to raise the front neckline of the tank top for modesty purposes.

I also changed the style just a little because I like adding something just for me!  I added a small amount of elastic to the side seams to create some ruching on the side.

The fabric is a fashion knit designed by Calvin Klein and was purchased from Fabric Mart some time ago.  I wish I had bought more because I would love to make a dress out of this fabric too!  Oh least I have this beautiful top!

I really love this top and plan on making a few more versions!  If you like this style, it is so worth you giving it a try!  You'll will really be happy you did!

On another note, I had lunch with a fellow sewing blogger Andrea from Satin Bird Designs to assist her with a blogging software she told me about called Blog Doc, Google Docs HTML Blog Editor.  This is the best software for posting to your blog on your IPad!  (in my opinion, that is!). I completely prefer it to my laptop!!!  The last three posts were done on my IPad with this software.  I'm happy to say we got Andrea up and running on the software, so lunch was a success!  Now we both can write posts no matter where we are!  You're very welcome Ms. Andrea, it was fun!

McCalls 6559, The Maxi

I finally jumped on the band wagon!  Don't know why it took me so long either!  Guest I'm always on that "Slow boat to..." you know the rest!

I used a fabric I purchased from Joann Fabrics on one of my trips to get some zippers & thread (isn't it funny how you go in the store for one thing and end up leaving with a lot more?!)   It's an ITY knit with lots of stretch.

Everyone was correct...this is a great, quick pattern to make (two pattern pieces!) and the dress is sooooo comfy!  I am sure I will be making a few more!  I made the racer back version and opted to create contrasting bias strips in black to cover the neckline and armhole openings.  I wish I had some of that "fold over" elastic I heard bloggers speak of!  Think I need to order some for my next one!  I really like the results!

I really like this dress quite a bit and wish it was just as easy to create the perfect little body to go with it!  All in all, if you're like me and have not jumped on this bandwagon, wait no longer, you'll thank yourself for making it!

Vogue 8747

Vogue 8747 could be another TNT top!  I'm really a knit person but trying to work with more wovens when making tops too.  This is a very nice pattern for this purpose.  I really like the fit right out of the envelope because of the multiple bust sizes!  It sewed up quick and easy with no problems.

I used a beautiful pastel blue stretch cotton from Fabric Mart I had in my stash since the beginning of Spring. (I'm still getting use to the fact that I have a fabric stash now cool!).   I made the short sleeve version with a collar.

 I didn't like just having the plain sleeve, so that was the only creative change I made...I added a little pleat and button to the side of the sleeve.  I also love the small amount of gathering in the front near the button placket.

All in all, this was a very nice and quick project to work on.  I like this pattern a lot!  I also noticed the black version on the envelope and have never owned a black cotton blouse...I think it's time for one, what do you think?

Thanks for stopping by everyone and;

Project Runway and Happy Birthday

Project Runway & Happy Birthday!

I'm really happy about the start of Season 10 Project Runway starting July 19th!  I got so excited, you would have thought I was getting ready to go on the show!!!  This is why...I was taking a little "looky look" at some things in my Pinterest boards when I came across this little number and thought...let's see if I could "make it work" as Tim Gunn would say!  So I set out to create this pretty little flirty top without a pattern....

I started this process by creating a muslin.  I used a yellow tee shirt cotton from my stash that I wouldn't be upset about if I messed it up.  Once I got this all pinned, adjusted and cut on Ms. Thing (my dress form), I put the pieces on my cutting table on top of pattern paper and traced the pieces so that I would have a pattern to adjust.  Well after an hour of trying to figure out how to put this together, I can say I did it! My muslin version turned out pretty good despite one small detail with the front ruffle... ruffle should have come down under the breast on the right side!!!  That's ok, this is a muslin and I will fix that on my real version!  Despite that little misshap, I love it and can't wait to start on the real version!  This is actually a very nice wearable muslin!!

It was a little windy out today and I couldn't keep the ruffle from flying up!

I like this top and think it would be really nice in a knit fabric with more recovery like a Rayon Lycra knit.  This cotton knit was a little to heavy for this style, but I still like it and will definitely wear this muslin!

Also, today is my birthday and my hubby took me out to one of my favorite places...Red Lobster for King Crab!!!  Yum, Yum, Yum me and my tummy are very happy!!!

Thanks so much for stopping by and;
