A Bright New Summer Dress!

Butterick 5886

When I first saw Mimi G's version Butterick 5886 (link here), I absolutely fell in love with it!  I can see why she said she wanted another one in black. This is such a beautiful dress! (and she is beautiful in it too!)

This is another pattern that actually went together very easy, with no issues and no alterations!  I think I want one in another color too!  If you've been reading my blogs for some time, then you know that I'm not very partial to A-line skirts. However, I couldn't resist trying with this one. I'm very happy to say I'm glad I did!  I love, love, love this dress! The only down side is my hubby doesn't share my happiness!  He thinks it's not my style, so he's not really "feeling" it on me! Oh well, I'm still going to wear it because I love it!!

I made this dress with fabric I purchased from Fabric Mart a little while back and it is a coral colored Rayon crêpe jersey knit, with a LOT stretch.  They no longer have it, but you can purchase similar here.  I made this pattern using a size 10 and it fit me perfectly with no alterations.

OMG LOL, I can't believe the exact same thing happened to me that happened to Mimi G, I use self fabric to line the bodice and ended up not having enough of the self fabric to line the skirt.  So I purchased Jet Set (from JoAnn fabric), a polyester tricot knit for the lining of the skirt.  It actually worked better for this dress because the tricot knit lining was a lot lighter in weight than the fashion fabric.  I guess that's the pitfalls of pre-purchasing fabric and keeping it in your stash!

I did include an invisible zipper in the side of the dress, even though it's s knit, it makes for easier on and off! (sorry I forgot to take a photo of zipper) The instructions for making the dress were right on target, very easy to understand and step-by-step illustrations made for a successful project!  This was such a win win, I am definitely making another in a different color and can't wait to where this out to dinner...I will win the hubby over too!

Also, as promised in my last post, here are a few pictures of the shirts I just made for the hubby...

The last two shirts aren't quite his favorites, he tends to like dark colors, this is me trying to bring him out of his comfort zone!

I've been sewing, just not a lot of time for posting...so the next few posts will be short so I can get it all in for you!  Please bear with me through this EXTREMELY busy work time.  Hopefully, when it slows down, I will get back to normal posting.

Again, thank you all for taking a few minutes out of your busy day to read my post!

HAPPY SEWING!
